At least 13 have been injured after multiple people were shot at Brooklyn subway station on Tuesday. The city’s fire department stated that several unexploded devices were found at the location. However, the New York Police Department said that there were no active ones at the moment. 

“Firefighters responded to a call for smoke at the subway station at 36th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn and found shooting victims and the devices,” the New York City Fire Department said in a statement.

Local media reports stated that the shooter is suspected to be still active in the area. However, there is no official statement has been made to confirm it yet. 

NY1 News reported the suspect wore a construction worker uniform and a gas mask. He may have tossed a smoke canister on the platform to distract the rush hour crowd, NBC reported, citing an NYPD official. 

“Due to an investigation, avoid the area of 36th Street and 4th Avenue area in Brooklyn. Expect emergency vehicles and delays in the surrounding area,” NYPD tweeted.

An NYPD official told the CBS News that a smoke bomb device was found at the location. Photos showed blooodied passengers lying on the floor of the station as other helped them. The D, N, and R subway trains are held at the station both directions and there are other delays as well, CBS reported. 

“In regard to the multiple people shot at the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn, there are NO active explosive devices at this time. Any witnesses are asked to call @NYPDTips at #800577TIPS. Please stay clear of the area. More provided information when available,” NYPD further said on Twitter. 

The incident took place a day after US President Joe Biden announced new gun control measures. He on Monday had increased restrictions on “ghost guns”, which are difficult to trace and can be assembled at home.
