The Field’s multi-story shopping centre in the south of Copenhagen is situated on the outskirts of the city, next to a metro line that
connects it to the city centre, and contains more than 140 stores and eateries.

Harry Styles was
also scheduled to play on Sunday at the Royal Arena, a 17,000-seat facility,
but the performance was postponed. A high school and a sizable student housing
complex with hundreds of young people living there on university exchange
programmes are located next to the retail centre.

 According
to Copenhagen police chief Soeren Thomassen, two Danish women, aged 19 and 40,
and two Swedish citizens, a 50-year-old male and a 16-year-old girl, were also
injured in the incident.

He told reporters that police do not believe the act
was tied to terrorism. Police said they believe the social media videos that
have been going viral of the suspect are real. The man is seen displaying
weapons, making suicide-related motions, and discussing mental medicine
“that does not work.”

Maximilian von Renteln, who was present at the spot
when the incident took place, says, “I was on my way to the shopping mall
to do some groceries and just as I was about to enter the shopping mall at
about 5:30, I heard several shots. And at that time, I didn’t think that those
shots were actual gunshots because it is not something that you would imagine
in a country like Denmark.

He even said,
“There were people running out screaming and crying, and that’s when it
hit me that something was actually happening.”
