The school shooting in Izhevsk in the Ural region of Russia that left at least 15 dead is being considered one of the deadliest incidents of mass shootings in the country’s history.

A former student of the school, Artyom Kazantsev, entered the school with two pistols wearing a balaclava and a T-shirt with the Nazi swastika on it killing 11 students, two teachers and two security guards. To avoid being arrested by the police, Kazantsev shot himself. His shooting spree left another 24 wounded, 22 of whom were children at the school.

The Kazan school shooting

A 19-year-old shooter identified as Ilnaz Galyaviev went back to his former school in Kazan, Tatarstan and killed nine people and injured 23 others in 2021. 

He killed seven eighth-grade children and two teachers before he was apprehended. Galyaviev plead guilty during trial and is currently awaiting sentencing. 

Mikenskaya Massacre

During the Second Chechen War Ahmed Ibragimov killed at least 34 inhabitants of the Mikenskaya village in Chechnya before escaping the village in 1999. He was captured two days later and handed over to the families of the victims who publicly murdered him in retaliation.

 Redkino Murders

As a result of a domestic conflict, Sergei Yegorov killed nine people with a hunting rifle in the village of Redkino near Tver in 2017. He was reportedly drunk when the conflict occurred as well as during his arrest. He was sentenced to life imprisonment

The Gorny shootings

A Russian soldier shot 10 of his colleagues killing eight of them in the town of Gorny, Zabaykalsky Krai, Russia in 2019. The shooting occured on a military base with two of the eight killed being identified as officers while the rest were enlisted. The shooter identified as Ramil Shamsutdinov surrended without resistance when a Spetsnaz team arrived on the scene two minutes after the shooting occured.

Tatarstan murders

Conscript soldiers Almaz Shageev and Mikhail Sukhorukov killed nine people and injured two others allegedly over debt, according to state-backed newspaper Pravda in 2002. Shageev allegedly killed Sukhorukov before committing suicide.
