Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday approved the decision to resume metro train services in the national capital. L-G Baijal gave his nod during a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) which was also attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other top officials, sources said.
Earlier, it was announced that Metro services in Delhi will resume from September 7, nearly five months after it was closed due to the coronavirus-induced lockdown.
Apart from wearing masks and social distancing, one of the major changes will be in the ticketing system of Delhi Metro when the services resumes. There will be token system and passengers will have to use smart cards only when the Metro restarts next month.
Passengers will also have to undergo thermal screening before they are allowed to board the Metro, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot had said.
“We will ensure that social distancing is maintained in the metros. Thermal screening of passengers will be done at the entry. No tokens will be issued, smart cards other digital methods of payment will be used,” ANI quoted Gahlot, as saying.
Also, there are reports that Delhi Metro has decided not to open all stations on September 7. Stations will be opened for public in a gradual manner.
