Former US
President Donald Trump has slammed the House committee investigating the Capitol
riots
last January for seeking his daughter Ivanka Trump’s testimony.

“It’s a very unfair situation for my
children,” Trump told the Washington Examiner. “They are using whatever powers
they have. They couldn’t care less. They are vicious people.”

“It’s a disgrace, what’s going on. They’re
using these things to try and get people’s minds off how incompetently our
country is being run. And they don’t care. They’ll go after children,” Trump
added.

In a letter on Thursday, the committee sought
Ivaka’s cooperation
with the investigation as well as asking her to testify
regarding conversations with her father. Ivanka, 40, was an advisor to the former
president at the time.

Panel chair Rep. Benni Thompson said Ivanka was in direct contact with her father during pivotal moments on January 6, when a mob stormed the Capitol Building in an attempt to prevent the certification of then-President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory.

The committee said Ivanka witnessed a phone
call made on the morning of January 6 in which her father pressured vice
president Mike Pence to reject the results of the elections.

“You were present in the Oval Office and
observed at least one side of that telephone conversation,” the committee said
in the letter.

“Testimony obtained by the Committee
indicates that members of the White House staff requested your assistance on
multiple occasions to intervene in an attempt to persuade President Trump to
address the ongoing lawlessness and violence on Capitol Hill.”

The committee also said it wants to
question Ivanka about her actions during the riots, which took place after
Trump held a rally near the White House, where he allegedly instigated the riots
and urged supporters to “fight like hell”.

It is not known whether Ivanka will agree
to testify before the committee. “As the Committee already knows, Ivanka did
not speak at the January 6 rally,” a spokesperson for Ivanka told Newsweek.
