Elon Musk, SpaceX and Tesla CEO, joked about buying Premier League side Manchester United amid a dismal start for the English club.

The world’s richest man concluded his message, saying, “ur welcome”. Musk has been known to make jokes about purchasing notable entities before. The Twitter purchase had started out as fun and games before the entrepreneur eventually made a $44 billion bid, which he then backed out from over bot issues, and is now being sued by the social media company for reneging on the deal.

Elsewhere, Musk had also joked about buying Coca-Cola and McDonald’s, with the intention of fixing the ice cream machines. Since his Twitter takeover started with a similar humorous tone before he got serious and purchased shares, offering to bring changes to the company, Musk’s unpredictability in these matters eventually leaves the internet guessing.

United have been facing management issues which are reflected in the club’s performance. Since Sir Alex Ferguson departed from the managerial position, the club has been hard-pressed to find the right fit for the job, and recent joiner Erik ten Hag hasn’t had much luck either. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick had suggested the need for a striker but United management didn’t listen, and the squad’s shape towards the tail end of the transfer window isn’t looking great either, with a lot of pressure on Marcus Rashford, who’s not quite come into his own, and Cristiano Ronaldo, who’s got one foot out of the door.

While United is estimated to be around $0.67 billion, Musk’s net worth is in the $254 billion ballpark, making him more than capable of buying the football team.

Musk, when announcing his intention to purchase United, also clarified his political stance again, saying he supported the left half of the Republican Party and the right half of the Democrats. Recently, Musk has become more politically active on Twitter, even extending support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in his 2024 presidential run.
