Tesla CEO Elon Musk said, at a party celebrating the inauguration of the Texas factory, the company will build a vehicle that is being designed to be used as a robotaxi. Musk added Tesla will start making three new vehicles next year. 

The innovator didn’t share any other details of the robotaxi except saying that it will look rather futuristic. Musk shared that the Austin factory of Tesla will start making the Cybertruck pickups next year. He also added that a new Roadster and electric semi are in the works. 

His comments came on Thursday at the Cyber Rodeo at Giga Texas, an invite-only event that was live-streamed on YouTube. Musk also announced that the first batch of Model Y small SUVs would be built at the new factory, touting its ability to make at least half a million such vehicles in a year.

Tesla, which is the largest producer of electric vehicles in the world, has often failed to meet targets when it comes to delivering its promises regarding automobiles. Previously too, Musk had announced a fleet of autonomous robotaxis, which were expected to hit the road in 2020. It is 2022 now, and its “Full Self-Driving” software continues to be tested on public roads by select Tesla users. 

Musk also has plans to scale up the Austin factory and the one in Germany this year, while announcing an exciting possibility of Tesla starting to build a robot in 2023. The billionaire said, “Next year there’s going to be a massive wave of new products”.

Apart from the excitement surrounding Tesla, Musk has also acquired a 9% stake in Twitter, becoming a prominent shareholder and making his way into the social media company’s boardroom.
