English Singer Elton John slammed rapper DaBaby for his homophobic comments during a recent music festival performance. The rapper, during the Miami festival Rolling Loud Sunday, asked the audience to raise their mobile phone flashlights if they did not show up to the event with “HIV/AIDS or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that will make you die in two to three weeks.” The video of which was provided by TMZ.

John criticised the rapper for spreading misinformation. He took to Twitter are said that he was shocked to read about the HIV misinformation and homophobic statements made at a recent DaBaby show.

The English singer also included a list of facts about HIV, adding that one can live a long and healthy life even with HIV. 

John concluded by urging influencers to “spread compassion and love for the most marginalised people in our communities.”

British singer Dua Lipa, who has worked with DaBaby in the past, said she was shocked and surprised by the rapper’s comment. 

She wrote, “I really don’t recognize this as the person I worked with,” Lipa wrote. “I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”

Releasing a statement, clothing company BoohooMan also decided to cut its ties to DaBaby.

Meanwhile, DaBaby apologised for his statement, according to video obtained by TMZ. He said his comments were a “call to action” instead of a rant. He insisted he has nothing against the LGBTQ community.

The rapper tweeted people infected with HIV have the right to be upset with him and what he said was insensitive even though he had no intentions on offending anybody.
