Frank Lampard, former
England midfielder and Chelsea coach, has been appointed Everton manager on a
two-and-a-half-year deal, the BBC reported. Everton are currently placed 16th on the Premier
League points table with 19 points. They need to up their ante in order to
prevent relegation.

Lampard will replace Rafael
Benitez, who was sacked earlier this month after Everton registered just one
win in 13 matches. In the meantime, it will be Lampard’s first job since he was
sacked by Chelsea a year ago with Thomas Tuchel taking his role.

“It is a huge honour for me
to represent and manage a club with the size and tradition of Everton. I am very hungry to get started,” said
Lampard.

“My first message to
the players will be that we have to do this together. We’ll try to do our job
and I know the fans will be there backing us,” he added.

Lampard’s first match as
Everton coach will be Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Brentford at
Goodison Park.

His first signing at Everton
is expected to be Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek, who is set to
join the Toffees on loan for the rest of the season.

Former Chelsea and
Manchester City player Lampard, who won 106 caps for England, is tasked with
keeping Everton in the top-flight as the club are 16th and just four points
above the relegation zone.

Everton owner Farhad Moshiri
said, “I am really delighted that Frank has joined us. He is an impressive
young man on and off the pitch. He has played at the very highest level of the
game and has football in his blood.

Prior to his 18-month spell
at Chelsea, who he led to an FA Cup final and a top-four finish, Lampard spent
a season at Derby, which ended in defeat to Aston Villa in the play-off final.
