Tom Cruise was honoured at the 75th Cannes film festival, where his latest release ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ was screened. However, during the career retrospective montage, the omission of Cruise’s ex-wife and co-actor, Nicole Kidman, stood out.

Though Kidman had been married to Cruise for over a decade and appeared in three of his movies, there wasn’t a sign of her in the comprehensive career montage featuring a series of clips.

While Kidman and Cruise met on the set of ‘Days of Thunder’, the montage didn’t include their iconic embrace, instead opting to show scenes of the 59-year-old actor driving a very fast car.

In the clip of ‘Far and Away’, where Cruise and Kidman appear as Irish immigrants who seek their fortune in 1890s America, there’s no sign of the 54-year-old American Australian. Cruise is seen riding a horse in the segment of the historical epic.

This, of course, brings us to ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ the last work of Stanley Kubrick, the acclaimed auteur. In the movie, Cruise and Kidman play a couple whose relationship faces a hurdle upon the wife’s admission of considering an affair.

However, the Cannes didn’t go with any of the confessional moments in the film, opting to show a clip where Cruise removes a mask from his face.

The clip was shown ahead of the ‘Top Gun‘ sequel screening, and a masterclass with Cruise, which took place on Wednesday afternoon. Some of Cruise’s notable co-stars who did make it onto the montage include Dustin Hoffman (“Rain Man”), Kristen Dunst (“Interview With the Vampire”), Renée Zellweger (“Jerry Maguire”) and Penelope Cruz (“Vanilla Sky”). There were also clips of Cruise as Ethan Hunt, from his ‘Mission Impossible‘ series.

Despite Kidman not making it onto the reel, Cruise discussed working with his ex-wife at the Master Class. When asked about the brutally emotional scene where Kidman’s character describes her extramarital fantasy to Cruise’s character, who remains unflinching, the actor noted “We worked together to find the tone: [Stanley Kubrick], Nic and I”.
