Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo sent the football fraternity into a frenzy with his stunning comeback to Premier League club Manchester United. The club, in a brief statement, made the announcement and welcomed him back to his home.
“Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical,” an official statement read.
“Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester,” United said in a brief statement, ending a day of fast-moving developments.
Here are the other reactions:
Previously, Ronaldo played for Manchester United for six years – 2003-2009 under Sir Alex Ferguson.
In 2009, Ronaldo was sold to Real Madrid for £80m (€93m).
During his stint with Manchester United, he made 292 appearances across all competitions and scored 118 goals. Owing to his incredible goal-scoring record, he is the club’s ninth all-time leading scorer.
In six years he won three Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy, one FA Cup and two league cups.
Cristiano Ronaldo has won 32 major trophies in his career, including seven league titles, five UEFA Champions Leagues, one UEFA European Championship, and one UEFA Nations League.
He also holds the records for most goals (134) and assists (42) in the Champions League, most goals in the European Championship (14).
Ronaldo began his senior club career playing for Sporting CP, before signing with Manchester United in 2003. He went onto win three consecutive Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Hours before the confirmation rolled in, current United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Ronaldo “knows that we’re here” if he wanted to join.
“He is the greatest player of all time, if you ask me,” said Solskjaer, a former United striker who played alongside Ronaldo.
“Such a tremendous human being as well … Everyone who’s played with him, I think, has a soft spot for him.”
Ronaldo will leave Juventus after three years. He joined the club from Real Madrid.
