The best album of the year is Sound Ancestors by Madlib, an American musician. The album was produced by Madlib himself. It was arranged, edited, mastered in collaboration with Four tet. They announced the collaboration with Madlib on November 24, 2020, and the album was released on January 29, 2021.

Second, comes Pray for Haiti by Mach-Hommy, a Haitian-American rapper known for the price he charges for his work. He also associates with Tha God Fahim. The rap album was released on May 21, 2021. The album contains sixteen tracks of lyrical and musical genius. This album also acts as a charitable venture with 20% of its earnings going to the Pray for Haiti Trust Fund to help improve schools in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

The third is Tyler, the Creator’s CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. He is an American rapper and producer. The song was released on June 25, 2021, and is narrated by DJ Drama. This studio album depicts the identity of a character named “Tyler Baudelaire”, which is a reference to Charles Baudelaire, a French poet whose work has been well regarded by music journalists. Genres in the album include hip hop, pop, jazz, soul, and reggae.

The fourth best album of the year is Mood Valiant by an Australian band, Hiatus Kaiyote. It is their third studio album. It was released on June 25, 2021. The album was nominated for the Aria Music Awards 2021 for Best Soul/R&B Release and Music Victoria Awards 2021 for Best Victorian Album. The album is praised for its emotional richness, effortless melodies, soulful vocals, and liveliness.

Among the top five are is Star-Crossed by Kacey Musgraves, an American singer and songwriter. It was released on September 10, 2021. Musgraves co-wrote and co-produced the album with American musicians IanFitchuk and Daniel Tashia with whom she had already associated. The album was preceded by three singles: the lead single and title track “Star-Crossed” followed by “Justified” and “Simple Times”. Music critics regard it as a “divorce album”.
