The Power of the Dog took home Best Picture — Drama at the 78th Golden Globe Awards that were held on Sunday.

Other nominees in the category were Belfast, Coda, Dune and King Richard.

‘The Power of the Dog’ is a 2021 western drama adaptation of the
1967 book of the same name, authored by Thomas Savage. The film subtly peeks
into the life experiences of the author.

The film revolves around the life of two brothers, Phil, and George
Burbank, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch and Jesse Plemons respectively. The movie takes a deep dive into the disparity between the brothers, and their yearnings in life.

Being on a ranch, Phil loves being a cowboy and living a peaceful
life in the mountains, while George yearns to seek love and companionship beyond
the ranch. With their opposing perspectives, the film builds around the arising
tension between the two brothers. It is only after George ends up marrying a woman
with a son, that Phil asserts complete dominance in fear of losing control over
his western cowboy life. The movie is a compelling watch with a deep plot twist
during its climax.

Being director Jane Campion’s first feature film in over a decade,
the film is an engaging and deeply intricate piece of work.
