A number of
Bollywood celebrities have expressed their concerns regarding the situation in
Afghanistan, as the Taliban on Sunday took control of Kabul with thousands of
people thronging to the capital city’s airport in a desperate attempt to flee
the war-torn nation.

Actor Rhea
Chakraborty
said she was “heartbroken” to see the condition of women since the
Taliban seized the country.

In an Instagram story, she said, “While women around
the globe fight for pay parity, women in Afghanistan are being sold. They have
become the pay. Heartbroken to see the condition in Afghanistan. Urge the
global leaders to stand up to this! #smashthepatriachy Women are human too.”

Soni Razdan said, “While one country celebrates their Independence another loses theirs … what a world this is.”

Meanwhile,
Tisca Chopra shared a throwback picture from her childhood to remember the
Kabul she knew as a kid.

In a series
of tweets, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur expressed his anger at the situation, while
also praying for the people of Afghanistan. “You’re 14 years old. Most of your
family has been killed by bombs. You have no way to protect those that are
left. You have no food. No schools. Nothing. Till someone gives you a gun and
promises to feed you if you shoot. Suddenly, you have food. And you have family,”
he said in a tweet.

“Special
prayer Folded hands for the people of Afghanistan. A nation wrecked and
destroyed by colonial ambitions of foreign powers. #Afganistan,” Kapur tweeted.

Actor Aftab Shivdasani said, “The
situation in Afghanistan is very concerning. My heart goes out to the Afghan
people. Prayers for its stability. #AfghanistanBurning #Taliban.”

Afghanistan
President Ashraf Ghani has fled the country to an undisclosed location, just
before the Taliban took control of the capital Kabul on Sunday.

The insurgents
have swept across the country, with cities and provinces falling under their control
as the country’s security forces collapsed in a matter of just
10 days.
