In
a major encounter, Uttar Pradesh police on Wednesday morning gunned down Amar
Dubey, a close aide of history-sheeter Vikas Dubey, who was involved in an ambush in Kanpur last week in which eight policemen died, a senior officer said.

Amar Dubey was killed in Maudaha village in Hamirpur district, STF IG Amitabh Yash told PTI. He is the third member of Vikas Dubey’s gang to be killed in an encounter with the police.

Speaking on the encounter, Hamirpur SP Shlok Kumar told ANI that, “an SHO and a STF constable were injured in the exchange of fire during the encounter today”. He further said “an automatic weapon and a bag have been recovered from Amar Dubey’s possession. Forensic team on their way to the encounter site, further investigation is underway.”

Hours after reports of Amar Dubey’s killing, Vikas Dubey’s aide Shyamu Bajpai carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 was also arrested by Chaubeypur police in Kanpur, following an encounter.

Hours later, Crime branch and Faridabad police launched a joint operation, and arrested three men in Faridabad, after raiding a house on receiving inputs on presence of Vikas Dubey. “There was brief firing by criminals, pistol used by Dubey during Kanpur incident and one pistol stolen from UP Police have eben recovered,” Faridabad Police official said.

Amar
Dubey, who also had a reward of Rs 25,000 on him, is a close aide of Vikas
Dubey, and the two spent a lot of time together. Most of the pictures released
by police of Amar Dubey, had pictures of gangster Vikas Dubey’s house in the background,
which has been pulled down by the police.

Eight policemen were ambushed in Bikru village in Chaubeypur area of Kanpur when they were going to arrest Vikas Dubey and fell to bullets fired from rooftops shortly after midnight on Friday.

Vikas Dubey, the notorious criminal who carries a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh, is still absconding.

Police
on Tuesday arrested three people over last week’s ambush of a police team by
the henchmen of Vikas Dubey and transferred a DIG, shortly after another
officer accused him of having links with an associate of the gangster.

The transfer order,
involving three other officers as well, did not link the move with the
allegations against Deputy Inspector General Anant Deo, now posted out from the
state’s Special Task Force (STF) to the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) in
Moradabad.

But only hours
earlier, Inspector General (Civil Defence) Amitabh Thakur made it known that he
has written to the state police chief H C Awasthy seeking an inquiry against
Deo and his transfer while the probe is on.
