Last year in November, British TV network BBC announced a fresh probe into a 1995 interview of late Princess Diana with BBC’s Panorama’s Martin Bashir where the Princess of Whales had said, “There were three of us in this marriage.”
“I don’t sit here with resentment: I sit here with sadness because a marriage hasn’t worked. I sit here with hope because there’s a future ahead, a future for my husband, a future for myself, and a future for the monarchy,” Princess Diana had told Bashir.
The explosive interview that sent ripples across the Royal Family was called the scoop of the century and was watched by around 23 million people. More than 25 years later, the questions have arisen again, about how the interview of Princess Diana was secured by Bashir, an allegation that in 1996 was cleared by BBC news chief Tony Hall.

Reacting to the freshly announced probe by BCC into Princess Diana’s interview, Prince William said he “tentatively” welcomes the investigation.
In a statement, reported by USA Today, Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, said, “The independent investigation is a step in the right direction. It should help establish the truth behind the actions that led to the Panorama interview and subsequent decisions taken by those in the BBC at the time.”
In the BBC interview, Princess Diana had talked about her state of marriage with Prince Charles, her fight with bulimia, and her lack of confidence that made her inflict harm upon herself. The interview had come a year later Prince Charles admitted to having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.
While Prince William has backed BBC’s probe, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, has not publicly commented on the matter. However, some close sources of Prince Harry told BAZAAR.com that he is getting “regular updates and is aware of everything that is happening.”
“You do not need a public statement to imagine how he is feeling privately, people know how much his mother means to him,” the sources said, adding that Prince Harry had, in past, spoken about his loss and grief and the impact it has had on him.
The sources said that instead of seeing this investigation as a drive for truth, people are “trying to use this as an opportunity to try to drive a wedge between the brothers.”
