Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was shot at during a rally at Allahwala Chowk in Gujranwala, which is in Punjab’s Wazirabad. He has sustained injuries in his leg. The shooter shot multiple rounders at the container atop a truck carrying Khan and several other PTI leaders.

One person has been killed in the firing.

A PTI supporter who was present at the rally tackled the shooter, who was later arrested.

A video later emerged of the shooter who confessed to the crime. He also said that he had attacked Khan because he believed the latter was misleading the country.

The shooter has also said that he had been planning for the attack since Khan began his rally from Lahore. He confessed that he had come to Wazirabad on a bike and had parked the vehicle at his uncle’s shop. Although the attacker said that he acted of his own accord, it later came to light that he did have an accomplice.

One of them was using an automatic weapon while the other one fired from a pistol.

Khan’s party, PTI, is calling the incident an assassination attempt.

The 70-year-old former World Cup-winner was transferred to another vehicle and taken to a hospital. He is currently out of danger.

The former PM’s lorry was destined for Islamabad. The rally began in Lahore on Friday. Khan had been ousted via a no-confidence vote in April 2022, and is currently calling for early elections through the procession which he has termed “the long march”.

Khan has now issued a statement through Asad Umar, a senior member of his party, PTI, blaming Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the attack. He has also named Rana Sana Ullah, the country’s Interior Minister, and Major General Faisal Naseer, a senior officer of Pakistan’s foreign intelligence agency, ISI.
