Jemima Goldsmith, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s ex-wife, has reacted to his recent statements linking women’s attire to the country’s growing cases of sexual assault. “And again. Sigh.” the British film producer said on Twitter.

Goldsmith has previously criticised the cricketer-turned-politician for his offensive comments on women’s attire. Her most recent tweet followed one from her on April 8, when Imran had faulted “fahashi” (vulgarity) for the rise in sexual assault in the country.

Her earlier tweet reads, “I remember years ago being in Saudi Arabia and an elderly woman in an abaya & niqab was lamenting the fact that when she went out she was followed & harassed by young men. The only way to get rid of them was to take her face covering OFF. The problem is not how women dress!”

Opposition and activists from all around the world reacted angrily to the comment. Many on Twitter slammed the PM for referring to males as “robots” and forcing women to bear the brunt of sexual assaults perpetrated against them.

In a recent interview with HBO, the leader drew a parallel between women’s clothing and the increase in sexual assaults in the country.

“If a woman is wearing very few clothes, it will have an impact on the men, unless they are robots. It’s just common sense,” the Pakistan PM said.

The interviewer was taken aback by his statement and pressed Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on whether women’s attire may lead to sexual assault.

Khan responded, “If in a society people haven’t seen that sort of thing, it will have an impact [on them].”
