Washington DC saw one of the largest crowd gatherings on January 6, 2021 for the ‘Stop The Steal’ rally, which later turned into a violent insurrection aimed at overturning the results of the Presidential elections.

The storming prompted the mobilisation of the Washington DC National Guard and the Capitol Police to curb the violence. However, when things seemed to get out of hand, lawmakers in the chambers were escorted to safety– including then-Vice President Mike Pence.

Several events have been planned for the anniversary of riots in Washington DC, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ address from the Capitol. The White House said Biden will “speak the truth” of the insurrection.
