The big development from Day 7 of the Beijing Winter Olympics has been the doping controversy surrounding 15-year-old Kamila Valieva, of the Russian Olympic Committee. The World Anti-Doping Agency and the International Testing Agency said on Friday that they will contest the decision by the Russian anti-doping agency to allow Valieva, who has tested positive for the banned substance trimetazidine, to compete.
Meanwhile, a total of seven medal events were held today – Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, Biathlon, Short Track Speed Skating, Skeleton, Snowboard and Speed Skating.
At the end of the day’s proceedings, Germany maintained its lead atop the medal tally, having won a total of seven gold and four silver medals. Norway is in a close second with six golds, while the Netherlands have five.
