The Winter Olympics 2022 got underway on February 4 in Beijing. On day two of the action-packed games, Zoi Sadowski Synnott won New Zealand’s first gold medal in Winter Olympics history. Australia also earned its first gold medal at the games since 2010, with Jakara Anthony winning the freestyle skiing women’s moguls. Nils van der Poel gave Sweden its first Olympic speedskating medal since 1988, pulling off a stunning comeback to win gold in the 5,000 meters at the Beijing Olympics, while Johannes Ludwig of Germany bagged gold in the men’s singles luge. Japan’s Ryoyu Kobayashi won Olympic ski jumping gold on the normal hill. Alexander Bolshunov won the men’s 30 km skiathlon for the athletes of the Russian Olympic Committee.
Meanwhile, the men’s downhill Alpine skiing was postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
