Since the Taliban formed government in August, they’ve held talks for the first time with diplomats from the West. The meetings took place behind closed doors in Oslo, Norway.
Taliban delegate Shafiullah Azam said, “We are requesting them to unfreeze Afghan assets and not punish ordinary Afghans because of the political discourse. Because of the starvation, because of the deadly winter, I think it’s time for the international community to support Afghans, not punish them because of their political disputes”, as per AP.
Afghanistan has nearly $10 billion frozen by the US and other countries, while the country faces a humanitarian crisis.
