Even as tsunami warnings were issued in Japan and California, Tonga was plunged into darkness with its single fibre optic cable destroyed. While the world wished to aid the Tongans, precautions were needed since it has so far avoided a COVID-19 outbreak. Nonetheless, reports emerged of Tonga being covered in volcanic dust, rendering the existing freshwater supplies useless, and causing a shortage of drinking water. Finally, help has arrived in the form of a foreign aid plane bearing crucial supplies.
