British author J.K. Rowling bashed Vladimir Putin after the Russian President correlated the West’s condemnation of his country with the outrage faced by the Harry Potter author for being homophobic.

“Critiques of Western cancel culture are possibly not best made by those currently slaughtering civilians for the crime of resistance, or who jail and poison their critics,” Rowling wrote on Twitter with a hashtag of ‘I Stand With Ukraine’.

As Rowling uploaded the tweet, several social media users poured in with their reactions.

“Brought up JK Rowling as well. Did Stalin or Hitler ever mention the Kardashians? A new low,” one Twitter user quipped.

“Could I possibly be in the wrong about 1 issue in my life that I’ve faced constant backlash for and now a literal tyrant is agreeing with me? Nah it’s the children who are wrong,” another user mocked the author.

Another user added, “Imagine being such a bigot that Putin is a fanboy of yours. If I had a war criminal taking time out of his campaign of horror to praise my views on a marginalized group, I’d take some time to reflect.”

Making a Harry Potter reference, one user wrote, “I’m getting cancelled like JK Rowling,” says the man who most resembles Voldemort.”

Rowling’s tweet comes after Putin whined about cancel culture during a televised conference on Friday, claiming that the West was trying to “cancel” Russia due to the country’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

He further compared the global outrage faced by his country to the backlash that Rowling has been receiving for years for her controversial views on gay rights.

“J.K. Rowling has recently been canceled because she… did not please the fans of the so-called gender freedoms,” Putin said during the conference.

“Today, they are trying to cancel a whole 1,000-year-old country, our people. I am talking about the increasing discrimination of everything related to Russia, about this trend which is unfolding in a number of Western states,” he added.
