The mayhem caused by a section of England fans on the night of the Euro 2020
final
last Sunday has drawn wide condemnation from sports enthusiasts from
across the world.

The violence and blatantly racist abuse took away a lot from the sheen of
Europe’s biggest football tournament which saw expert gameplay and a
nail-biting finish in the penalties round.

While police close in on the troublemakers who caused the mayhem at the
Wembley stadium in London, Italy’s center-back Leonardo Bonucci has come up
with a cheeky response to English fans.

In a seemingly innocent picture put up by the footballer on Instagram, Bonucci
can be seen eating a plate of pasta with his defensive partner Giorgio
Chiellini.

The picture has been posted with the caption: “We’re still eating pasta. And you?”

Bonucci’s remarks refer to the chants Italy players heard during the final
against England at Wembley. A
large section of England fans reportedly chanted: “You can shove your f*ing
pasta up you’re a*se.”

This is only the latest in Bonucci’s banter aimed at English fans. Earlier,
the center-back had provoked the ire of English fans when he appropriated one
of their best songs “Three Lions” turning the famous chorus “It’s coming home”
into “It’s coming to Rome.”

The Euro final last Sunday saw ugly scenes at the Wembley stadium where
ticketless fans stormed into the stadium using entrances intended for the disabled.

England footballer Harry Maguire announced on Wednesday that his father had
suffered two suspected broken ribs after he got caught up in the violence at
Wembley.

Further, England footballer Bukayo Saka called upon social media companies
to be more proactive in stopping racist abuse against Black players of the
English team.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson responded to the flood of racist abuse
against Black players and said that anyone guilty of racist abuse will be
banned from football stadiums.
