Following the suspension of the English cricketer, Ollie Robinson over his racist Twitter posts from 2012-13, the English cricketers’ social media activities have been under scrutiny. And cricketers Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler have been under the scanner since their old tweets, which are suspected to be racist, resurfaced.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said that “relevant and appropriate action” would be taken, cases would be evaluated on an individual basis, reports PTI.
The tweets of Buttler and Morgan were from 2017 and 2018 respectively, with both tweets having the usage of the word “sir” in common. Butler’s tweet read, “Well done on double 100 much beauty batting you are on fire sir”. Morgan’s tweet read, “Sir you’re my favourite batsman”.

“Although there are questions over the precise context of the tweets, they were written at a time when Buttler and Morgan were established England players and have caused offence on social media,” according to a report in the Telegraph.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan said the questions raised over the tweets were “ridiculous”.

ECB spokesperson on Tuesday said, “Since we were alerted to offensive tweets last week, a number of historical social media posts by other individuals have been questioned publicly as well”, reported PTI.
“There is no place for discrimination in our sport, and we are committed to taking relevant and appropriate action where required. Given the concerns which have been raised are clearly now broader than a single case, the ECB Board will discuss how we deal with issues over historical social media material in a timely and appropriate manner”, added ECB.
“Each case will be considered on an individual basis, looking at all the facts. We will assess cases with the ECB Board before making further statements”, said ECB.
