Chenab bridge holds the record of world’s highest railway bridge. This bridge is the part of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link  project. The Chenab Rail Bridge’s arch was completed in April 2021. It stretches the entire 1.3 km width of the Chenab river  and is located in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Constructed with a budget of Rs 1,486 crore, the Chenab bridge aims to boost connectivity in the Kashmir Valley. This bridge is 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower in France and the completion of this project will provide the J&K valley a direct link to the rest of India. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted about this bridge and said, “This feat of construction not only showcases the growing powers of India in the field of modern engineering and technology  but also is an example of changing work culture marked by the ethos of sankalp se siddhi.”

Piyush Goyal also tweeted,  “Infrastructural Marvel in Making: Indian Railways is well on track to achieve another engineering milestone with the steel arch of Chenab bridge reaching at closure position. It is all set to be the world’s highest Railway bridge.”

Chenab Bridge weight: The weight of the arch is 10,619 MT.

The bridge is designed to withstand high wind speed up to 266 Km/hour.

It is the world’s highest railway bridge at 359 meter above the river bed level.

The bridge will operate at a restricted speed of 30 Km/hour.
