Ketanji Brown Jackson has not yet reacted to the latest Roe v. Wade draft leak from the Supreme Court but has previously spoken her mind on United States’ abortion laws. The right to abortion, and by extension Roe v. Wade, was brought up in Jackson’s Senate hearings.

When asked about her thoughts on Roe v Wade, Ketanji Brown Jackson put two Donald Trump appointed justices on the spot.

Agreeing with justices Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett, Jackson said in her confirmation hearing, “Roe and Casey are the settled law of the Supreme Court concerning the right to terminate a woman’s pregnancy.”

Jackson, the first Black woman to be confirmed as a US Supreme Court Justice, will be stepping into the top court with a small track record of abortion-related cases. Most of the Supreme Court action is expected to be wrapped up before Jackson takes her oath this summer.

Jackson has tackled only two major abortion rights cases in her judicial career so far– one of them was against the administration of former President Donald Trump.

In Policy and Research v. HHS, Jackson ruled that Trump’s administration had not properly grounded its actions in the mandates of the Administrative Procedure Act, Washington Post reported. The cases revolved around cutting grant funding under the federal Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program.

Jackson drafted an amicus brief in support of a women’s rights group that was working to keep pro-life protestors away from the entrances of abortion clinics in Massachusetts. The draft was written during her private practice as an attorney.

Ketanji Brown Jackson’s entry into the United States Supreme Court is not expected to have a large outcome in the Roe v. Wade matter. She will be replacing liberal justice Stephen Breyer and will not disrupt the 6-3 ideological split in the court.
