A video of what people are calling a ‘Grim Reaper’ walking in the alley of West Minster Abbey has gone viral on social media, ahead of King Charles’ arrival at the venue for Coronation on May 6.

As the royal guards are seen parading inside the Abbey, a figure dressed in all black is seen walking in the back, across the doorway. The figure was seen just for a few seconds but was enough to incur a plethora of reactions on social media:

One person wrote, “Anyone else just notice the Grim Reaper at Westminster Abbey #Coronation?” Another responded, “Thanks. Thought I was going mad.” A third commented, “I saw him too!”

A confused fan questioned: “Did someone just edit this in or was that actually someone walking past?” One person found joy in the situation: “This might just be my favorite moment of the #Coronation.”

King Charles III’s coronation ceremony was attended by more than 2,000 guests. It was a stark contrast to the coronation of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was crowned in 1953, where 8,000 people were present. Her ceremony also lasted many hours, although Charles’ ceremony is slated to be only a little more than an hour.

At 11 a.m., the Westminster service begins after a royal procession from Buckingham Palace.

The coronation is the official crowning of the monarch, even though Charles already held the title following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September of last year. Charles will be formally crowned, given a variety of ceremonial items, and acknowledged as King by various representatives of the British state during a ceremony that is anticipated to last around two hours.
