France made their way into the 2022 FIFA World Cup after crushing Kazakhstan 8-0 on Saturday. Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe starred for the defending world champions with four goals. Meanwhile, Real Madrid’s talisman Karim Benzema netted twice after the break in a fine display of attacking football as Les Bleus qualified for Qatar as the group winner with a game to spare.

France have an insurmountable four-point lead over second-place Finland in Group D. The Didier Deschamps-managed side were missing injured Paul Pogba so Adrien Rabiot started in midfield at Parc des Princes.

Rabiot’s first international goal came in the 75th minute, when he headed home from Antoine Griezmann’s exquisite corner. Griezmann now has 42 goals for France, one more than Michel Platini, the legendary French midfielder.

Meanwhile, Mbappe thrilled the 45,000 home fans with his first international hat trick — including a rare header — inside 32 minutes. Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman was in great form down the right and set up two of those goals.

Mbappe was ready to be brought off when Moussa Diaby expertly slipped him in for a low finish and his 23rd international goal in the 87th minute. As Mbappe exited the field, Deschamps joined in the cheers.

Deschamps will be delighted to see how quickly the partnership between the 33-year-old Benzema and the 22-year-old Mbappe is developing and also how the forward line as a whole has been combining.

“We showed great ideas, movement and we took our chances well,” Deschamps said, according to Associated Press. “Kingsley has the ability to dribble and cross. He was a bonus for us on the right side.”

Meanwhile, Benzema, who has eight goals in 12 matches since being recalled by Deschamps in time for this summer’s European Championship, said, “We showed we have a good understanding and combine well together.”
