On March 8, 2017 FC Barcelona did what no other team in the
history of the Champions League has been successful in doing – turning a 4-0
first leg loss into a resounding success in the second leg with a breathtaking
6-1 win – producing in turn a 6-5 aggregate score and proving their
mettle as truly one of the best in the world.

The match saw three Barca goals being scored in the last
seven minutes, a visibly pressure-inducing situation for fans of both teams. The
winning strike for the Catalan giant, moreover, came from ‘Cule’ Sergi Roberto, who came off the bench to score his first goal of the season.

The situation, however, clearly did not favour Barcelona from
the beginning, as Paris Saint Germain (PSG) won the first leg by quite a decent
margin of 4-0 in the Parc des Princes, home turf of the Paris-based side, that
too in a decisive manner.

PSG’s Angel Di Maria brought the hammer down upon Barcelona
with his brace, with Julian Draxler and Edinson Cavani solidifying the shameful
display in part of the visitors, Barca’s worst in Europe at the time, having only
once being equalled four years prior by Bayern Munich.

Understandably, Barcelona were on the hunt for something more
than just a win ahead of its second-leg clash with PSG, and in hindsight, it would
certainly not be an overstatement that they completed with a sort of ruthless finesse
what they had set out to do.

Fast forward to match-day, and it is, as expected, a
packed-to-the-brim Camp Nou that is ready to ‘welcome’ PSG.

The first half had indicated a fight back by the Spanish
side, with Luis Suarez scoring a goal in the opening minutes, as well as an
own-goal by PSG’s Layvin Kurzawa.

The Barca-barrage started, however, in the second half.

In the 50-minute mark, Lionel Messi’s penalty made Barca go
up 3-0, with a response from PSG coming by the way of a Edinson Cavani scorer in
the 62nd minute.

This, however, did not seem to stall Barca’s advance, with Neymar
Jr putting the ball inside the PSG net through a free-kick.

With the injury time beginning after the stipulated 90 minutes,
the home side’s chances of giving it back to PSG became fainter, only to be
revived a thousand times just a minute later, with a 100,000-strong Nou Camp
crowd roaring their hearts out as Neymar scored from a penalty, leading the aggregate
score to be settled at 5-5.

The taste of victory was now closer than ever, and coming
off the bench in his season opener, Sergi Roberto added the touch that
completed it all.

From a defensive block of Neymar’s free-kick, Roberto stretched forward, sliding in on one knee, inching the ball from a Neymar-rebound towards
the keeper, who leapt in the opposite direction, and the ball swirled, touching
the net.

A moment of silence, and then an explosion.

Mayhem ensued in Camp Nou, as Barcelona took away an
unforeseen Champions League win, moving on the next round.
