A man was found dead following a standoff with local authorities at a Foxboro home in Massachusetts, on Friday. 

Though the man’s identity remains unknown for now, the police said that the officers on scene didn’t open fire at the time of the incident, despite the standoff continuing for nearly nine hours. 

Local police authorities responded to reports of a barricaded person in a building in McKenzie Lane. The State Police bomb squad was sent to help, the law enforcement agency said at the time that there was no threat to the general public.

“Foxborough Police, Foxborough Fire, and Metro-Lec are on scene on McKenzie Lane dealing with a joint public safety response for an isolated, contained incident. There is no threat to the general public at this time, including area residents, and we ask that you please avoid the area for the time being,” the police said.

The Foxboro Police had asked the Federal Aviation Administration not to allow any pilot to operate an aircraft in the area of McKenzie Lane. Authorities had also requested the public to avoid the area as they continued the investigation.

The area is located near the backside of the Gillette Stadium.

Upon arrival, the authorities found the man to be armed and threatening to harm himself. Paramedics and local firefighters were also present at the scene. While backup was called, the man stopped responding to the calls. Foxboro police chief Michael Grace said, “When the subject did not respond to calls from family or police, we were able to deploy a robotic camera into the home”.

The man’s body was found inside and detectives are assisting the investigation, while the autopsy remains to be performed. The local police had clarified right at the start that they were dealing with “an isolated, contained incident”.
