As Roberto Firmino’s late goal took Liverpool to the top of the league
on Wednesday, Tottenham coach Joe Mourinho said that his side must learn to kill
off games if they wished to win the first league title in 60 years, AFP
reported.

Firmino’s header secured a win for Liverpool as it ended Tottenham’s
11-game unbeaten run, opening up a three-point lead for the defending champions
at the top of the premier league table.

While Liverpool secured a 76% possession and 11 shots on target compared
to two from Tottenham, Mourinho still claimed that his side could have won the match
if they had taken their chances in the second half.

“A
draw would be a bad result in relation to the performance, so you can imagine
how we feel with the defeat”, AFP quoted Mourinho as saying, who noted that in
such tight matches where not many chances are created, scoring and killing the
match is of importance, which his side did not.

Mohamed
Salah’s shot, deflecting off Toby Alderweireld and edging past Tottenham keeper
Hugo Lloris, opened up the scoresheet for Liverpool, to which Tottenham replied
by equalising on the 33rd minute as Song Heung-min coolly pushed the
ball past Alison Becker, building upon a pass from Giovani Lo Celso.

With
the match nearing its completion, Firmino rose the highest in the 90th
minute in an Andy Robertson corner kick, and gave Liverpool its place on top of
the league with a straight header.
