A 36-year-old model was attacked by a leopard during a photoshoot in eastern Germany, reports BBC. The model was shooting at a retirement home for show animals.

According to BBC, the woman, who is as an animal lover as well as a photo model, suffered serious head injuries inside an enclosure that is home to two leopards, Troy and Paris.

She was taken to hospital on Tuesday with serious injuries.

There was no danger to the wider population, said Burgenland authorities. They are investigating what happened at the animal home in Nebra in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

The victim has been identified as Jessica Leidolph, according to German tabloid Bild. She told the tabloid that the leopard constantly bit her cheek, ear and head. It is not what she was being shooting for and who had organised the shoot. According to her website, Leidolph has her own horse, cats, pigeons and parrots.

The owner of the site has refused to comment on the incident. According to her website, the animals of residents home have already featured in film, TV and advertising, including Game of Thrones and BMW campaigns. Troy and Paris were part of a commercial for plasma TVs.

According to local media reports, the 48-year-old owner and animal handler has Troy and Paris since 2019. She also worked as an animal trainer for circuses and amusement parks for more than 20 years.

District authorities told BBC that local vets inspected animals’ living conditions, behaviour and the site’s security earlier this month.

Animal rights group Peta, which works globally for animals protection and safety responded to the attack. It said that big cats should only be kept in recognised rescue centres, adding that using animals for commercial gain was unethical and inhumane.
