Liz Cheney, a Republican lawmaker in the United States, accused Europe of “funding” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that has now turned into a “genocidal campaign.” The Wyoming Republican linked her accusations to Europe’s energy trade with Moscow.

Liz Cheney, whose father is a former United States Vice President, was speaking about the missile strike that happened earlier this week and killed more than 50 Ukrainians. “I think this clearly is genocide”, she said in an interview with CNN.

“I understand the economic consequences to countries in Western Europe if they were to impose the kind of oil and gas embargo that the US has imposed against Russian oil and gas, but they need to do it”, Liz Cheney said in the interview.

The Congresswoman suggested that the United States can boost its domestic production of energy and aid countries that do not have the infrastructure to do so.

“Every single time, every single day that they are continuing to import Russian oil and gas—they’re funding (Vladimir) Putin’s genocide in Ukraine”, she said while justifying her arguments.

The news comes days after the Kramatorsk train station attack, where at least 52 people were killed and more than 100 were left injured, according to multiple media reports citing Ukrainian officials.

Around 4,000 people — mostly women and children– were at the train station at the time of the attack, the mayor of Kramatorsk said.
