Liz Truss became the new prime minister of the United Kingdom after meeting Queen Elizabeth II at Balmoral Castle.

Following Boris Johnson‘s meeting with the monarch and resignation letter earlier this morning, Truss was officially appointed.

These sessions have taken place in Balmoral Castle in Scotland instead of Buckingham Palace in London because the Queen is facing mobility issues.

Truss, 47, is the third female prime minister in the history of the UK. At around 4 o’clock, she will deliver an address to the nation before starting to assemble her cabinet. It is anticipated that she would return right away to Downing Street.

With supporters reportedly talking about a £100 billion package to freeze prices, one of her first important acts as prime minister is anticipated to be an announcement on plans to address the energy pricing situation, according to The Guardian.

The plan might be announced as early as this Thursday, and it is anticipated that it will be funded by additional borrowing rather than a windfall tax on suppliers as Labour had suggested.

Truss’s Twitter profile was swiftly updated by her team to mark her new role. “Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Leader of the Conservative Party. MP for South West Norfolk,” the description states.

Later on Tuesday, it is anticipated that important cabinet nominations would be made, with junior positions following over the next few days. Truss is anticipated to appoint a cabinet of supporters, including Suella Braverman as home secretary, Kwasi Kwarteng as chancellor, and James Cleverly as foreign secretary.

Thérèse Coffey is anticipated to be named health secretary, among other significant appointments, but Rishi Sunak, who lost the race for the leadership position, won’t have any involvement.

After a dispute over positions for other significant leadership rivals like Penny Mordaunt, Kemi Badenoch, and Sajid Javid, several positions are still up for grabs. Senior sources claimed that positions in the fields of transportation, culture, education, and Northern Ireland were among those still to be assigned.
