Metropolitan police said that the man was walking towards Buckingham Palace while wielding an axe and was detained by the relevant authorities swiftly on the suspicion of carrying an “offensive weapon”, according to British media reports. 

Even though no injuries have been reported in the area, the man was taken to the police station at Charing Cross for further investigation on the episode, according to reports from The Guardian.

The suspect, who is likely to be in his forties, was taken into custody around the Institute of Contemporary Arts building in London, according to multiple pictures posted on social media by witnesses. Furthermore, some witnesses accounts on Twitter say that the man earlier spotted around 6:30 pm in the area.
