A stabbing was reported outside the Los Angeles City Hall during a protest that opposed the mandating of COVID-19 vaccines. The demonstration soon turned into a violent situation where a journalist was reportedly attacked, according to US media reports citing law enforcement officials.

Members of the Los Angeles Police Department clarified that they have been “monitoring” the demonstrations outside the south lawn of the City Hall after the violence erupted. Additionally, officials announced that no arrests have been made so far after the incident, however, an investigation around the stabbed person, who was taken to the hospital, had been initiated, according to reports from the Washington Post.

Even though the exact cause of the violence outside the Los Angeles City Hall remains unclear, videos shared on social media platforms show two sides kicking and punching each other.

According to reports from the Los Angeles Times, one of the two groups involved in the brawl were rallying for “medical freedom” while the counter-protesters gathered at the site.

Frank Stoltze, a reporter for media outlet NPR said that he was attacked at the protest site outside Los Angeles City Hall and had his “glasses ripped off his face”, according to reports from the Washington Post.

Stoltze described the protests in Los Angeles as being in support of former United States President Donald Trump and an attempt to recall California’s Governor Gavin Newsom, who is a member of the Democratic party.

Margaret Stewart, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department said that an emergency call was received around 2:34 pm that triggered a response to the site of City Hall protests. The responders to the call moved an individual to a hospital for treatment. However, no details about the condition of the person were revealed. Moreover, authorities have also not announced the identity of the stabbed individual.
