National Parents’ Day is celebrated every year in the month of July on the fourth Sunday. This year it falls on the 25th day of July. The day is celebrated to honour parents’ efforts and sacrifices to give their children a comfortable life. It is observed to commemorate the special bond between parents and their children. It also recognizes the importance of responsible and positive parenting. Although it is celebrated every year, it is not a public holiday.

In 1994 United States (US) President Bill Clinton signed a law to recognise the fourth Sunday of every July as Parents’ Day. This law was then adopted by the US Congress, it is celebrated for “recognising, uplifting and supporting role of parents in the rearing of the children.”

In the US every on Parents’ Day, Americans honour parents for raising and supporting children to help build a stable and strong community. Since 1994 local Parents’ Day committees organise Parents’ Day events across several states. Children who live away from their parents due to work or other reasons, make sure to visit their parents on this day and spend quality time with their family members. Even in India Parents’ Day is celebrated on the same day as the US.
