Bystanders contacted the police concerned when they saw the child walking on the street, alone in the cold. No individuals were injured in the accident.

The police described that the boy had woken up on Saturday when his father went to work and took his mother’s keys deciding to go for a drive. Cops were called to investigate the abandoned vehicle which was registered to the boy’s mother.

When they contacted her, the young boy gestured the turning of a steering wheel and mimicked driving, leading officers to realize he might have been the one behind the wheel.

The Dutch police gave the boy some hot chocolate and a teddy bear before reuniting him with his mother. They went to the crash site together, where the four-year-old was asked to show them how the vehicle worked.

The child, who his mother described as “resourceful”, as per BBC, used the keys to open the car, turned on the ignition, and moved his foot to the gas and clutch pedals in the vehicle.

“Fortunately, this mini driver’s adventure has come to an end with a sizzle”, the police noted in their post, while urging that the parents hide their car keys in the future.
