In one of his first moves, newly-elected Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif proclaimed a weekly one-day holiday and changed the hours of government offices to 10 hours, local media reported on Tuesday.

“No two off days in a week anymore! There will be only one official weekly off, PM Shehbaz Sharif has ordered. He has changed the office hours of government offices from 10 am to 8 pm,” Samaa News reported.

The decision is being made against the backdrop of rising inflation in the country.

Economists have warned that growing inflation will pose a significant problem to Pakistan’s future government, forcing it to undo so-called relief measures offered by the Imran Khan administration.

Shehbaz Sharif was sworn in as Pakistan’s 23rd Prime Minister on Monday after being elected by the country’s National Assembly.

“Mian Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif has secured 174 votes,” announced PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq, who was chairing the session after Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri resigned before of the vote.

After President Arif Alvi fell unwell, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani gave the oath to Sharif.

On Monday, Pakistan’s opposition leader was elected as the country’s new Prime Minister. He takes over for Imran Khan, who was ousted by a no-confidence vote on Saturday.

“Today, the almighty has saved Pakistan and the 22 crore people of the country. This is the first time when the vote of no-confidence motion was successfully passed. The people of this country will celebrate this day,” Sharif stated following the election.

Khan resigned as a member of the National Assembly before the new Prime Minister was elected, declaring that he will not sit in the assemblies with “thieves.” The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, his party, boycotted the election, and MPs walked out.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi was nominated for Prime Minister by the PTI.
