Julia Anne, a member of Parliament in New
Zealand, hopped on her bicycle and rode to the hospital while in labour. Despite being well aware of her condition, she chose to push through anyway and gave
birth an hour after reaching the hospital.

How New Zealand’s Will Young mastered the art of playing spin in India

The Greens politician informed the world about
the incident on her Facebook acouunt and said, “Big news! At 3.04am this morning we welcomed
the newest member of our family. I genuinely wasn’t planning to cycle in
labour, but it did end up happening. My contractions weren’t that bad when we
left at 2am to go to the hospital – though they were 2-3 min apart and picking
up in intensity by the time we arrived 10 minutes later. (I’m smiling in the
car park right after one.) And amazingly now we have a healthy, happy little
one sleeping, as is her dad.”

She added, “Feeling
blessed to have had excellent care and support from a great team, in what
turned out to be a very fast (and happily uncomplicated) birth. “

New Zealand opposition leader Collins ousted by caucus

For a nation
with a population of a little over 5 million, the Kiwis are well capable of
producing interesting stories. New Zealand is well known for its humble politicians
and this instance of child birth was yet another example of the same.

Prime Minister Jacinda Arden once famously took maternity leave while in office and
brought a three-month-old companion (her child) to a United Nations meeting as
she was still breast feeding.

Julia Anne isn’t the first woman from New Zealand to get to the hospital on her
bicycle while undergoing labour induced pain. Genter’s party’s spokesperson for
transport issues also rode her bike to the hospital.
