US President Joe Biden, on Thursday, said that dispatching the country’s troops to Haiti in order to ensure stable processes of the Caribbean nation, after President Jovenel Moise was assassinated earlier this month.

The United States will be deploying Marines to Haiti in order to provide protection to its national embassy in the capital city Port-Au-Prince and to make sure “nothing is out of whack”, said US President Biden according to reports from Reuters.

“The idea of sending American forces to Haiti is not on the agenda at this moment”, said Biden while addressing reporters at the White House.

The United States, however, continues to assist in the investigation into the murder of Moise, and a large number of former Colombian soldiers are suspects.

However, United States authorities have vowed to provide assistance in probing the assassination of the President. Officials from the United States Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have already been deployed to Haiti. 

Civil groups in Haiti have had a welcoming attitude towards the idea of United States forces in the country to maintain any possible breaches of peace and security, according to reports from Reuters.

Claude Joseph, the acting Prime Minister of Haiti, had earlier requested the United States to assist the country in protecting its infrastructure and airports.

A large number of former Colombian soldiers have been held in Haiti in suspicion of killing President Jovenel Moise.

US Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas warned that Haitians and Cubans would be repatriated if they try to flee to the United States amid unrest in their respective countries.

“The time is never right to attempt migration by sea,” Mayorkas said on Tuesday, according to AFP inputs. “This risk is not worth taking.”
