Online video sharing platform OnlyFans announced that it will ban ‘sexually explicit’ content starting October 1. The subscriber-only website said in a statement that the changes were to comply with the requests of its banking partners and payment providers.
“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines,” OnlyFans said.

It added that it would allow creators to post content containing nudity if it was consistent with OnlyFans’ policies.
OnlyFans had become popular as an adult content website over the years. During the lockdown, more than 130 million users signed up to subscribe to content or pay to chat with creators on the platform, the Guardian reported. Even though, as the company says, OnlyFans has material ranging from yoga to cooking, pornography is by far the most popular content on the site, the report adds.

Payment processing companies have been pressurising sites that host pornographic material. In December 2020, Visa and Mastercard briefly banned payments to websites owned by online pornography giant MindGeek.
“We will be sharing more details in the coming days, and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines,” an OnlyFans spokesperson said, as per the Guardian.

“OnlyFans remains committed to the highest levels of safety and content moderation of any social platform. All creators are verified prior to being able to upload any content to OnlyFans, and all uploaded content is checked by automated systems and human moderators.”
Earlier this week, OnlyFans said it was launching a new streaming platform and app called OFTV on which creators can share video content on topics such as fitness, cooking, comedy and music.
