At least two people were dead and 14 others injured after a suspect opened fire at a nightclub in Norway’s capital Oslo on Saturday, police said.

“Two people are confirmed dead,” the Oslo police department said in a tweet.

The injured were rushed to a local hospital. Some of them have severe injuries, police said, Reuters reported.

“Some are described as seriously injured, others as more lightly injured,” police official Tore Barstad told at a press conference.

The suspect was taken into custody from a nearby street a few minutes later. The motive behind the shooting was not known.

“Now everything indicates that there was only one person who committed this act,” Barstad said.

The London Pub, where the shooting took place, is a popular gay bar and nightclub in the center of Oslo.

A witness told the Verdens Gang newspaper, “He looked very determined about where he was aiming. When I realised it was serious, I ran. There was a bleeding man lying on the ground.”

Another said an automatic weapon was used in the shooting, a detail that has not been confirmed by cops.

“There were a lot of injured people on the ground who had head injuries,” the witness said.

The city was scheduled to hold its annual Pride parade later on Saturday. Police were patrolling the scene of the shooting.
