Pakistani social media influencer Waqar Zaka, famous for advocating the use of cryptocurrency, has warned Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan to lay off his family after he claimed that he and his family had received threats for fighting a court case against a cryptocurrency ban in the country.

“I am fighting for the middle-lower class people who want to earn and stand on their feet and me my families are receiving threats,” said Zaka, sharing his struggles with his social media followers.

The development comes days after the Sindh High Court barred federal government investigators from taking punitive action against those operating cryptocurrency businesses.

The alleged threats go back days, and Zaka had claimed that he started receiving threats asking him to not appear at the Sindh High Court on January 12 for a hearing on his case against the cryptocurrency ban, which he had filed in 2019.

The 28-year-old crypto activist, who initially made his name as a television show host and now gives advice on the cryptocurrency trade, had criticised the Pakistan government and PM Imran Khan by name days earlier, claiming that they were trying to censor his voice and prevent the emergence of a ‘Digital Pakistan’ with decentralised currency.

For instance, a day ago, Pakistani media outlet Dunya News ran a story urging authorities to arrest Zaka for his stance on the crypto ban. Zaka has responded by sending a legal notice to the outlet.

Zaka’s stance on cryptocurrency, however, has captured the imagination of a large portion of the youth in Pakistan, who had earlier urged PM Imran Khan to meet him to understand the facts about ‘revolutionising technology‘ in the South Asian country.
