French driver Pierre Gasly, who won last year’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza, has been confirmed at Scuderia AlphaTauri alongside Yuki Tsunoda for the 2022 season of Formula One.

The 25-year-old started at 10th and finished fourth in last year’s Italian Grand Prix at Monza on Sunday at Zandvoort in the first Dutch Grand Prix in 36 years.

Gasly was a former teammate to Dutch GP winner Max Verstappen at Red Bull in 2019 but was demoted back to the junior team (Toro Rosso — now AlphaTauri) after 12 races.

In 2019, he finished second in Brazil and third in Azerbaijan last June.

Gasly and Tsunoda will spend another year as teammates after coming together for AlphaTauri this year.

While Tsunoda’s performance on the track has been patchy, Gasly has earned a name for himself by being the standout performer.

Considering the French driver’s recent performances there has been much chatter anticipating his next move.

He has continuously been linked with Red Bull but with Sergio Perez’s term being extended for another season, Gasly’s return will be put on hold.

AlphaTauri will be excited for the duo of Gasly and Tsunoda, taking in account the overall performance of the team this season.

Some of the spots on the grid for the 2022 season are yet to be confirmed. Haas haven’t officially announced their lineup, Alfa Romeo is yet to confirm Valtteri Bottas’ teammate and George Russell’s replacement at Williams is also yet to be revealed.
