As the “spare” to his brother Prince William, the 40-year-old heir, he felt most defined up until this point, both publicly and privately, he writes in his new memoir Spare, which was released on Tuesday, January 10.

“While I know much of my life may seem unrelatable, I do think most siblings can relate to grappling with comparisons, and my brother and I are no exception,” he stated as per PEOPLE.

His candid discussions about Princess Diana’s death, how Harry and William pleaded with King Charles not to wed Queen’s consort Camilla, frequent press leaks, his experience killing 25 Taliban fighters in Afghanistan, his discussions of going to therapy, his turbulent relationship with Prince William, and much more are among the most important takeaways from his memoir.

In response to what he thinks his family would learn from his memoir, he states: “I don’t want to tell anyone what to think of it and that includes my family. This book and its truths are in many ways a continuation of my own mental health journey. It’s a raw account of my life — the good, the bad and everything in between.”

“My hope has been to turn my pain into purpose, so if sharing my experience makes a positive difference in someone’s life, well, I can’t think of anything more rewarding than that!” he added.

Despite the ongoing tensions, Harry says he is hoping for a reunion with the royal family and wants his kids to grow up with close bonds to his family.

Waterstone’s reported that the memoir, which is presently the best-seller on Amazon’s UK, US, Australian, German, and Canadian websites, had high pre-orders despite the absence of lines.

Following the purchase of a copy in Singapore, Lai Jiang told Reuters that she “knows possibly some of the things he says have touched some individuals the wrong way.”

“And I know there are undoubtedly many people who think he shouldn’t come out and say the things he says, but I think Harry should be given the opportunity to say what he wants to say,” the speaker continued.

The royal family has not responded to either the book or the interview.
