Princess Latifa, daughter of the UAE Prime Minister has sent a letter to the UK police urging them to investigate the alleged kidnapping of Princess Shamsa from Britain in 2000.

While the UK Foreign Office has declined to comment on the matter, Princess Latifa says that her older sister was “abducted in an illegal manner, on UK soil and “kept incommunicado with no release date, trial, or charge,” reported CNN.

In a 2018 document Latifa wrote, “She was enslaved and oppressed and suffered physical abuse at the hands of family members … She wanted to seek asylum in the UK where she has family permanently living there. After a few months, she was kidnapped … She was dragged from the street kicking and screaming. She was tranquillized and flown back to Dubai.”

Princess Latifa is currently being held hostage herself. Her friends had managed to keep in contact with her for most of 2019 and the first half of 2020. They smuggled in a mobile phone which Latifa used to document the isolation she was being subjected to.

They sought help from the UN when they stopped hearing from Princess Latifa in the second half of 2020.

Her friend, David Haigh, who is a campaigner for her release sent the letter written by Latifa to CNN. She wrote, “In the summer of 2000 Shamsa escaped the family vacation house in England. She was 18 years old … and of sound mind.”

Her friends claim they have evidence of a British citizen being involved in the kidnapping of princess Shamsa.

Haigh said, “We were not able to release such evidence previously due to what we believed was an unacceptable risk to the life and safety of Sheikha Latifa. However, now that contact has been lost, we are gravely concerned for her life and safety and decided to take the step to release the evidence obtained.”

Latifa says in her letter, “Her ultimate goal is to be an emancipated person, to live with dignity, to have freedom of choice and freedom of movement … She wants the basic rights that all human beings are entitled to.”

Princess Latifa’s family has maintained that she is in the loving care of her family.
