Born as Her Royal Highness Princess Maragret Rose of York, Princess Margaret was crowned with the title of Her Royal Highness Princess Margaret, and Countess of Snowdon. She was the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II. Played by Vanessa Kirby in seasons 1 and 2 and by Helena Bonham Carter in Season 3 and 4, Lesley Manville will take over the role for season 5 of The Crown.

The character of Princess Margaret simply portrays the story of a young woman who was in love and how her complicated life ultimately gets shattered due to the early demise of her father King George Vl. This unfortunate event resulted in a rift between her and her family as her sister (Queen Elizabeth ll) chose to honour the history of the Crown of England, rather than love for the people in her life.

Princess Margaret is an effervescent, quick-witted, and talented woman. Arguably, she was the soul of the Royal Family. She has a spirit which is wholehearted in all accounts of her life. Apart from her lively nature, she also enjoys parties, dancing, and has a flair for entertainment.

King George Vl: Princess Margaret admired and idolized her father. Similarly, King George Vl also adored her. They appeared to share a mutual interest for life and all its riches. Peter Townsend: Princess Margaret knew Peter from a very young age through his work for the Royal Family. Townsend was a British Royal Air Force officer and an equerry to King George VI. Despite being a divorcee and having a wide age difference, Princess Margaret fell in love wth Townsend and wished to get married. However, the same was not possible due the Royal Marriages Act of 1772. Margaret needed the Queen’s permission to marry which was certainly not given. Antony Armstrong-Jones: Rumoured to be a bi-sexual, Princess Margaret stunned the world by marrying a commoner, Antony Armstrong-Jones, at the age of 26 in 1960. Antony was a photographer by profession. Both of them had a mutual interest in the arts, music and clothes. Later, he was given the title of Earl Snowdon so that their children would have titles.
